How to control algae in lakes and large ponds

If you have any queries or concerns about using Dyofix Pond Blue algae control in your pond or lake please read our frequently asked questions section. Please contact us if you have a question that is not covered in our FAQs.

Algae's food source

Sunlight, although desired by most people, is algae's prominent food source and is made up from a number of colours known as a spectrum.

This phenomenon is most commonly seen as a rainbow when the colours of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet are separated by the natural prism created by droplets of water in the air.

The parts of sunlight that supply the algae with food are visible as blue, violet and indigo.

DyoFix Pond Blue is a propriety blend of dyes that once mixed into the pond or lake acts as a barrier.

This barrier reflects the food source part of the spectrum away from the pond or lake surface and, at the same time, allows the other parts of the light into the pond.

Dyofix Pond Blue is non-toxic and economical

DyoFix Pond Blue is currently sold in three different forms, a powder, a liquid and a liquid concentrate for ponds containing upwards of 1 million litres. Each DyoFix Pond Blue algae prevention product is safe, non-toxic and economical to use.

Please use our quick quantity calculator to work out how much algae control is needed for your pond or lake. The simple calculator only needs your input of the pond or lake's length, width and depth to work out the volume (in litres).

A starting algae control dose should last 2 to 3 months, depending on the amount of sunlight and rainfall, and the pond can be "topped up" with lower weights as required. A minimum pond depth of 2 feet is required for the best results.
