Showing the effectiveness of Dyofix Pond Blue

What a pleasure it was to watch the video, showing the before and after using Dyofix Pond Blue in a fishing lake. As you can see, the fishing lake shores especially were negatively impacted by algae and after an application of Dyofix Pond Blue became the crystal clear water you see in the video.

Jonathan Newman was kind enough to make a post on Twitter demonstrating the effacy of Pond Blue and we thank him for allowing us to post our modified video to our YouTube channel.

If you have observed the video on Twitter and compared it to this version, you will notice Jonathan’s earthy language is missing. We removed his commentary to avoid causing offence to delicate constitutions. 🙂

Reflection pool using Dyofix Pond Black

Creating a reflective surface with Pond Black

Water feature designed by Peter Dowle of Howle Hill Nursery

Mr Rhodri Jenkins of Swansea wanted a reflection pool so he recently used Dyofix Pond Black to create a beautiful reflective surface.

Mr Jenkins was very kind and sent over pictures of his new water feature, before and after the application Dyofix Pond Black.

Mr Jenkins explained that he and his family lived in a new build which is now of 7 or 8 years of age. Adjacent to their property was, how Mr Jenkins described, a ‘washing machine garden’; where broken items had been unceremoniously been placed.

He wished to convert this unattractive area into something calm and beautiful for the family to enjoy so he contacted and employed the services of award winning Peter Dowle; the head garden designer and owner of Howle Hill Nursery near Ross-on-Wye.

Peter Dowle developed a beautiful design and, with his colleagues, converted the nondescript piece of land into a beautiful water feature and surroundings for the Jenkins family to enjoy.

The icing on the cake was the application of Dyofix Pond Black which created a calm reflection pool wwith the surface mirroring the lovely Welsh sky.

Beijing, China 2019

Urgent delivery to Beijing

We were contacted by Alistair W Baldwin Associates, a well known and respected garden design company to supply DyoFix Pond Black. The challenge was to get the pond dye delivered to the garden site in Beijing before the 27^th August. This request came through on the 19^th August!

Well done TNT!

Hats off to TNT Courier Service as they surpassed all expectations and delivered on 22^nd August and the images show it was all worthwhile.

Dyofix used to create an urban oasis

Urban Oasis at London Bridge Station

Tessa and Caitlin McLaughlin: Garden Designers

Award-winning garden designers, Tessa and Caitlin McLaughlin were asked to contribute to an urban garden display at the walk-through at London Bridge station. The remit of the display was to recycle the materials that had been used at the 2019 RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival and turn them into temporary public gardens, to highlight the importance of recycling materials.

The urban gardens can be viewed up till November 2019 when the project ends. The materials and plants will continue to be recycled into local community projects.

Tessa and Caitlin used Dyofix Black in a huge steel drum, to great effect in their urban garden design.

Clause 39; Magna Carta

“No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgment of his equals or by the law of the land.”

The National Trust at Runnymede is using Dyofix Pond Black to complete the magnificent ‘Writ in Water‘, a major architectural artwork by Mark Wallinger, in collaboration with Studio Octopi.

Writ in Water is inspired by Clause 39 of the Magna Carta, and also by the inscription on John Keats’ grave.

Situated at Runneymede, the award winning building celebrates the legacy of the Magna Carta using skylight and water, to reflect the words contained within Clause 39.

Mark Wallinger, the designer, comments: ‘In Writ in Water, the use of reflection to make the text legible plays against the idea of a law written in stone. Magna Carta curtailed this divine right and issued the first secular writ.’

Beneficial bacteria for clearing algae

Those of you familiar with our Dyofix pond dyes will know that algae is not only unsightly but can be a serious problem.

Not only can algae block pumps and filters; it discolours the water, forming green scum on the surface and layers at the base. The algae can take masses of oxygen out of the water with fatal consequences for aquatic life.

Bacteria are the primary decomposers of organic material in the environment. They are responsible for the purification process of rivers, streams, lakes and the removal of dead biomass and waste from our soil.

How does Byofix work?

The good bacteria in ByoFix, given reasonable conditions, replicate in a logarithmic growth pattern. The time it takes to replicate varies with species and the environmental conditions they are exposed to.

A typical species of bacteria can take 20 minutes to replicate. A bacterium will divide and become daughter cells. After an hour there will be 8 cells and over a million 6 to 7 hours later. After twelve hours there will be nearly 70 billion bacteria.

Introducing Byofix: Why bacteria?

Bacteria are single celled and one of the simplest forms of life. Despite the negative perception, the majority of bacteria are not harmful and some can be very useful in various industry and domestic applications. In fact, it turns out we are not us without bacteria.

Microbes can carry out two types of processes
Catabolism – the process where microbes break large molecules down into their constituent parts, either to use the fragments for other processes or to gain energy for growth. Bacteria can degrade many types of materials including wastes and chemical by-products, and can be used to return an environment, altered by contaminants, back to its original condition.
Anabolism – the process where microbes convert materials into other useful materials or build larger molecules from constituent parts.

Biosafety Levels (BSL)

The United States Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued criteria to categorize each strain of microorganism into a specific level of containment:
BSL-1: Safest. Not known to cause disease in plants, animals or other organisms.
BSL-2: Moderate risk of infections.
BSL-3: Agents are known to cause disease
BSL-4: Cause severe and fatal disease; epidemics

DyoFix BBPL is classified as BSL 1 and is eco friendly.

Bacillus Life Cycle

The Bacillus bacteria in Byofix is packaged and shipped in the spore form.
Once the product is applied in the application it is used for, the spores rapidly germinate into a vegetative cell.
After germination, the bacteria start secreting their enzymes, breaking down the food for an energy source. The bacteria grow and undergo cell division and reproduce two new identical daughter cells.
When the bacteria reach a limiting factor, they undergo sporulation (the creation of endospores and then spores).
