Anne Wareham creates a beautiful reflecting pool

What a lovely surprise to read Anne’s amusing post about her trials and tribulations in creating a beautiful reflecting pool and her relief at discovering Pond Black.

Generally people might consider that first. So for a long time I was in difficulties with my new unreflecting pool. You might think that a black liner might be quite enough to give a reflection, but it’s not – light picks up all the folds in the liner and shows all the random bits of debris which have found their way in.

I tried a variety of things, including errr…umm.. wood stain, which at the time was mostly only available in imitation wood colours (why do people want to stain wood in imitation wood colours?) so even getting black stain was a pain. Then, at last I came across a truly black reflecting pool, managed to contact the garden designer and found the Source of Black Pool Dye!

I have never looked back. Dyofix is the answer. I am totally happy to recommend it to anyone wanting to forget about their pond’s imitation of great grey-green, greasy Limpopo River for ever. And the reflections are an ever-changing joy.

“This pond dye really does work!”

Although it was several years ago that Thomasina wrote to us about Pond Black, our popular black pond dye. We felt we should thank her again and mention her excellent publication: The Container Garden: A Practical Guide to Planning & Planting.

From Thomasina Tarling, the author of ‘The Container Garden: A Practical Guide to Planning & Planting’:

Safe for animals and the blue will fade!

Is Dyofix pond dye safe for animals and pond life?

This is a question that we are asked occasionally and are happy to say that Dyofix pond dyes are completely safe for all animals, fish and aquatic life, including insects.

If you have dogs that love water we do suggest keeping them out of the way when applying the pond dye. Not because it is dangerous to them but more for aesthetic reasons… we don’t think you, or your dog, would like wearing a black or blue tinged coat. Accidents do happen of course and if it does, the coat will fade.

This letter we received (see below) amusingly recounts such an occurrence.

Amusing letter of thanks and a slightly blue Labrador

Having moved into an old cottage a couple of years ago the time came to deal with the vile smelling 30m x 30m x 5m natural pond!

Said pond had just about every type of algae you could possibly imagine and as an added bonus had a faulty septic tank discharging untreated liquid into it for 5 years previously. It doesn’t take much imagination to visualise this green, stinking nightmare.

Anyway, we replaced the septic tank, cleared the algae manually from a dinghy and then with great scepticism put the barley straw boom across the pond. Unbelievably 2 months later the pond was clear. The problem now was to keep it clear, enter Dyofix Pond Blue.

Having been around for several decades and bought umpteen products that promise the earth and deliver nothing I chucked the appropriate quantity of concentrate into the pond and looked forward to the return of the duckweed and algae. Guess what, this product really does work, the pond looks absolutely brilliant, clean, clear, slightly blue and has nothing growing on it apart from ducks and moorhens!

Fantastic product would seriously recommend it and will be purchasing some more shortly. Just as an added bonus the staff are friendly and helpful, another rarity these days.

The only drawback and this was my fault, was not keeping the dog out of the way when dispensing the concentrate and so had a slightly blue Labrador for a couple of days until we took him to the seaside!

In sixty years I have never written this sort of letter to any company so you can see how pleased I am with the product.

Thank you Dyofix Pond Dye

It is always lovely to receive a letter saying ‘thank you Dyofix Pond Dye’ from a satisfied customer and we were specially glad that Dyfox pond dye had cleared Helen’s pond in time for their big event.

Just to say a BIG thank you!!

“I ordered the dye when in despair as to what to do with a large pond covered in blanket weed, and only a couple of months to go before a big event in the field where the pond is a big feature.

“5 weeks GONE!! Clear, looking great. Wow so impressed!”
